Toastmaster

Wearing their trademark hunting red tailcoats, a Toastmaster is a very British tradition that dates all the way back to the 16th Century.

A professionally trained Toastmaster is a key person at any occasion where a degree of formality is required, and will give both you and your guests the confidence that your event is in expert hands and will run smoothly.

Many people think a Toastmaster simply makes announcements, however that is just a small part of their role. Much of their work happens before the event,  working closely with the client and/or the event coordinator, to make sure that the tone and timetable meets their needs. 

The Toastmaster will act as a Master of Ceremonies, Compère and Stage Manager to ensure any event runs to the agreed plan.

Examples of the type of event a Toastmaster will attend are Weddings, Fundraising Lunches/Dinners,  Awards Ceremonies, Product Launches, Civic Banquets to name only a few.

A Toastmaster’s duties include announcing arriving guests to the host, by way of a receiving line at formal banquets. They will also call guests to be seated, announce Grace, introduce the speeches and toasts and generally act as coordinator with the banqueting staff, entertainers, photographers and the technical team.

A professionally trained Toastmaster will also offer expert advice on protocol, etiquette and traditions before the event.

A Toastmaster will work closely with the event coordinator, making sure things run smoothly. For example, at a wedding, a Toastmaster will be responsible for orchestrating any or all of the following key moments; greeting the wedding party and guests, announcing guests, arranging the receiving line, introducing speeches, ensuring the guest book is signed, liaising with photographers, looking after cards and gifts, arranging the cutting of the cake, tossing of the bouquet, and then of course, the iconic first dance.
